Chain of Gold - Cassandra Clare (NO SPOILERS)

Title - Chain of Gold
Author - Cassandra Clare
Series - The Last Hours #1
Genre - YA Fantasy
ISBN - 978-1-4063-5809-4
Format - Hardback
My Copy - Purchased
Where you can find it - Goodreads - Amazon UK - Amazon US - Book Depository - Waterstones - Barnes & Noble - Indigo

Chain of Gold is the first book in a new Shadowhunter series by the amazing Cassandra Clare, I honestly haven't been reading much recently but this was something I couldn't let pass me by, a thought occurred to me as I was on the bus going to buy this book, I started reading this series ten years ago, in 2010, and I'm still coming back for more.

This book is in the same realm as the Infernal Devices series, but these characters hold their own, Cordelia, James, Lucie, Mathew, Thomas and many others have to do as many before them have and fight for the lives of their fellow Nephilim and also the mundanes, it shouldn't fall on their shoulders but they are willing to take not only the fall, but the risk as well. James and the gang must deal with hormones and demonic creatures that no one has ever encounter before, add in a dash of love and a lot of heartbreak and it spell for an amazing book.

So I wasn't too sure at first about this book because even though the family tree in the back of the Clockwork Princess is known to be false in parts I kind of liked the way it was, without giving out any spoilers, so far there are two things that I can say is wrong. I have lots of feelings about this that I will get into when I post my spoiler review but for right now all I'm going to say is that don't take the deaths or marriages to heart, because I'm guessing most of it will change.

Character wise, I really enjoyed reading from Cordelia's POV, and James' POV as well, I feel like Lucie's was there to give you certain aspects of the story but I wasn't as in to them as the others, there is something about Cordelia that reminds me of lots of 'modern' Shadowhunter characters she is selfless and compared to some in the series that I won't name here, it's refreshing.

James was good, at first I was a bit annoyed at him but when I figured out what was wrong with him I realised that the icky feeling I was getting in the beginning was because I was realising that what was happening wasn't quite right, Again most of James' storyline is full of spoilers so I won't talk about him much here, but know that he is a worthy successor to Will, Jem, Jace, and all the men who came after him.

This book is really hard to write about without giving out spoilers so I will not talk too much about the rest of the characters but I will say that the representation is phenomenal and Cassandra Clare has always been at the top of her game when it comes to representing the communities that don't get a lot of representation and even in a book where it's set in a time where it's not particularly accepted. I can't wait to see where this series is headed, and as of right now the next book is set to be released in March of 2021 so I cannot wait for it.

So to wrap up, even if you haven't read any of the Shadowhunter series, you could still enjoy this book, there will be things referenced but it isn't mandatory to understand what's going on. It's a really good read and one I am glad to have read.

Hello, so I'm back again this time with a post about the book series' I want to finish in 2019, this won't be a long list because I haven't started any recently so lets get right on into it...

Outlander - Diana Gabaldon

I've read the first book and half of the second but I really want to finish what's out I don't actually know if there are going to be any more books or not but this is on my list anyway.

I read the first two book in this series when they first came out and I brought the third but I was deep in my reading slump then and haven't read it yet so that is on my to do list.

Watersong Quartet - Amanda Hocking

I read the first two books in this series a while ago, and I really enjoyed them so I do want to finish them, hopefully by June, but definitely by the end of the year.

The Summer Queen - Elizabeth Chadwick

This isn't a series it's called linked instead, but I'm classing it as a series. I have read one book by this author and I loved it so I want to read these ones next.

Zenith - Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

Title - Zenith
Author's - Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings
Series - The Androma Saga #1
ISBN9781311167606
Genre - YA > Sience Fiction > Fantasy
My Copy - Purchased
Format - Kindle
Where You Can Find It - Goodreads - Barnes & Noble - Amazon UK - Amazon US
Most know her as the Bloody Baroness, the captain of a fearsome glass starship called The Marauder. Androma and her crew strike terror in the hearts of those who cross them amongst the many corners of the Mirabel Galaxy.
When a routine mission goes rogue, the all-female crew is captured by a bounty hunter from Andi’s past and forced into a job that could, quite literally, start a war that will devour worlds.
Meanwhile, on the far side of the galaxy, the ruthless ruler Nor waits in the shadows of the planet Xen Ptera, biding her time. The final pieces are about to fall into place, liberating a plan that will tear Mirabel in two.
As the Marauder hurtles toward the unknown, there is one lesson that proves to be true: No one can be trusted in a galaxy that runs on lies and illusion.

I picked this book up purely because of the authors, i have never read a Lindsay Cummings book but have many good things about them, and Sasha is from Booktube so i was intrigued about this book, i pre ordered it and read it with in an hour and going into it i didn't know much about it, so i went in completely blind and i actually enjoyed it and that has shocked me quite a bit because after the first chapter i was so confused and thought this was just going to be an OK book but as it went on it got better and better.

Character wise, i thought we were going to see more of Valen since he was the first person we met but then we will probably see more of him in the books to come. Dex now there is a story there, he is a character i feel is going to cause a lot of trouble in the books to come. The girls in Andi's crew we don't know much about them but what we do know i love, they are all kick butt, and all awesome in their own way. Androma is such a brilliant heroine, for such a shot book she really made an impact ad i cannot wait to read more from her.

The story was good not one that read often and also it wasn't too much because it wasn't very long. But the story that we did get really set up the rest of the series and you can see where this series is going to go.

The Birthstone Book Tag

I saw this floating around on Booktube a couple of weeks ago and decided i needed another tag for this month so i decided to do it lets get started....

1. January (GARNET):
Associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies - Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of.

Definitely Voldermort from Harry Potter, because i mean he is a evil character who tries to kill a baby and kills loads of other people.

2. February (AMETHYST):
Purple is associated with royalty - Name a book with regal qualities... You can base this off of characters of choose the King of all books

Stormbird by Conn Iggulden because it tells the tale of a 30 year civil war in England and it is magnificent and i cant believe the series is ending in May.

3. March (AQUAMARINE):
Washed out - Name a 'wishy washy' character, a character who is not strong or a follower

Zoe Sage from The Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead, she turned her own sister in to a organisation that her and her father blindly follow.

4. April (DIAMOND):
A diamond in the rough - Name a book that you loved but is not well known

The Long Game by J L Fynn, i got this in a goodreads giveaway back in 2013 and i loved it it was the first New Adult book i read and it will forever be in my heart.

5. May (EMERALD):
Said to balance energy - Name two characters who balance each other well

Rose and Dimitri from Vampire Academy, she acts first and asks questions later while Dimitri has more self control over himself and his emotions and they bring out the best in each other.

6. June (PEARL):
Associated with loyalty - Name a character who is loyal to the end

Percy Jackson, i don't have to say any more than that. It is one of his mortal flaws for gods sake.

7. July (RUBY):
Blood red - Name a book that made your blood boil, one that made you angry

Allegiant by Veronica Roth - NO WORDS, YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. -

8. August (PERIDOT):
Pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems) - Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character

I actually don't have on for this, i like most main characters more that supporting ones.

9. September (SAPPHIRE):
Blue like the ocean which is calming - Name a book that had a calming affect on you

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick, it had such a calming effect on me, i loved this book and even the cover is calming.

10. October (OPAL): Iridescent
Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover (Shiny? Lots of colour?) or you can base it off of a character (Quirky? Colourful?)

Ultraviolet - R J Anderson i completely admit this was a cover buy but then i read the back and i was hooked such a pretty cover.

 11. November (TOPAZ):
Associated with resilience - Name a books with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity

Henry VII in The White Princess by Philippa Gregory, he rises up and takes the crown in a time where the yorkists are mad that the princes and right full Heirs have gone missing and Richard III is behind it.

12. December (BLUE ZIRCON):
Associated with friendship - Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of

The Rosemary Beach series by Abbi Glines the entire group of friends just seem like a riot it would never be boring and with Dean and Kiro dropping in you know drama is going to follow them around.

I don't know why but I would love a pen that turns into a sword.

4.  A Silver Stake - Vampire Academy

Again I have an love for things sharp and magical and this is.in both categories.

3. Stele - Shadow Hunter Chronicles

I would love to be invisible, and cure an injury with just one rune.

2. Broomstick - Harry Potter

C'mon imagine flying around London at night and avoiding using the tube one thing I actually need.

1. Invisibility cloak - Harry Potter

Again I love the idea of being a fly on the wall and you would be able to see so much being invisible and also I would be able to sneak into the Tower of London at night or creep up on people and scare them.

Lady Midnight - Cassandra Clare - Spoiler FREE Review (PART 1)

ISBN - 9781471116612
Genre - YA > Urban Fantasy
My Copy - Purchased
Format - Paperback
Where You Can Find It - Goodreads - Waterstones - Barnes & Noble - Book Depository - Amazon UK - Amazon US
** NOTE **
This is part one and there will be no spoilers in this part, part 2 will be up before this one so if you are scrolling down this is the one you read 1st.

Emma Carstairs doesn't believe Sebastian Morganstern killed her parents and when Fey bodies start turning up with the same marks as her parents had she knows she was right, Emma, Cristina and the Blackthorns must find out who is doing the killings in 3 weeks otherwise they will never see Mark again. But with a secret organisation that is connected to the murders The L.A Institute must work out how everything connects together before its too late and one of their own is murdered....

I highly suggest you read Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy before reading this book so many more things will make sense, i promise.
OK let me start of by saying this is probably the best first book in a Shadowhunter Series and i loved it i finished it at 1 am and i screamed very loudly at 12:30 am and woke my family up, so many twists and turns and so many things that we need answers for, Now i was just on tumblr and i saw something that has actually quite annoyed me and that is that, the next book isn't being released until April 2017 and Chain of Gold (The first book in the Last Hours trilogy) isn't going to be released until after that so we have another two years before we get to see Will as a dad.

It is one of those books that you cant put down it hooks you in on every page and keeps you reading and reading till its all finished. The characters were different from TMI but then again at the same time they were very similar, but Gender bent compared to TMI where the boy is arty and the girl is the best shadowhunter. I actually enjoy seeing the parallels i know a lot of people don't and that's OK, but personally i do and the mentions of past characters if you saw my instagram i took a picture of one of these examples and i just fangirled so hard.

The story was one we haven't heard before in this series its Necromancy , we have had Automatons and Daemon Blood infected Villains, i am almost certain that necromancy have never even been mentioned before in this series.  The characters will feel a sense of Deja Vu with them but i loved it and i always will, new characters (ones we haven't seen before) were actually so good and brought so much like Cristina and Kit who we will be seeing more of hopefully in the next book, I also have to admit i felt it was a little long like it felt like it was just about to be solved but there was still 200 pages left so i got pretty annoyed that it seemed never ending at times, but then there were times i wanted this book to be 1000 pages long so it wouldn't end for a while more.

Emma is such a strong character and like all of the Carstairs we have met so far is incredibly loyal and a phenomenal fighter. Julian is one of the best male characters in these chronicles he is talented, smart, funny and awkward. His relationship with his Parabatai is one of the story lines that definitely intrigued me with the law and why the law is in place, as well. This had so many story lines in this book from the murders to Uncle Arthur's illness to all of the relationships it is one big crazy book that was pretty much perfection.

Also if you wanted to see more of Tessa and Jem then you get your wish because they make many appearances and also Clary, Jace, Magnus, Alec and so many more characters that we have grown to love in the past 9 years.

This book was one of the best first books in a series i have read in a very long time it was so good to immerse myself in this world again and i cannot wait to write the spoiler review of this book because there is so much to talk about if you haven't read this book i highly suggest you do it has a different feeling than her last series and it has a lot of potential for the coming books.

PART 2 SPOILERS HERE - *#*

Lady Midnight - Cassandra Clare SPOILER REVIEW (PART 2)

If You Haven't Read Lady Midnight Do NOT Read Any Further.....

OK so, there were so many things that happened in this book so lets start right from the beginning and we meet Kit for the first time and i didn't understand this prologue at all until obviously the secret came out at the time i thought it was pointless, so i didn't even mark anything apart from Emma making her first appearance of the book.

When the dead body showed up that's when things really started rolling, and the story making sense of what i at first thought this series is going to be about but again once we find out who the killer i was a bit deflated at first because i thought the entire trilogy was going to be about who is doing the killings and catching that person, but i think the rest of the series is going to be about obviously Annabel Blackthorn and maybe her getting revenge on Nephilim maybe. I don't know.

I fangirled so much in this book and one of the first times was when Ty was described he has unruly black hair and Grey Eyes he is a mixture of Tessa and Will i almost cried, it was magical and hes the only one that looks like that.

The second time was like 10 pages after that and it was when we find out that Jace and Clary run the NY Institute. They have earnt it and it was so good to hear about them and what they are doing with their lives (i will get to the rest of them at the end when i talk about A Long Conversation)

I have to admit i was wondering when this was going to come up, the whole contraception issue. I have seen it asked on Tumblr way to many times and we finally get a conclusion i actually laughed when i read that Clary invented the contraception rune. I can just imagine Jocelyn and Luke's reaction, it would be hilarious.

When we first meet Arthur he seemed very strange, and i actually forgot about his time in Faerie Land with his brother but that is what is wrong with him he hasn't been the same and he thinks Julian is his father it was very sad and also for Julian who killed his father that must be like a knife in the chest.

Mark, Mark was one of the enigmas of this book he was a mystery we didn't know much about him from previous books we have only seen glimpses of him and the fact that he is bisexual just made me happy, Clare is known for putting Race and Sexuality in her books unlike a lot of YA Book its getting better now but this is one of the best in that field. At first i thought something was going to happen between Mark and Cristina but then he starts kissing Fae Princes and Perfect Diego comes back (more about him later) and then the ending happens so i don't think that is going to happen. But i kind of ship Mark and Kieran so i am a bit on the fence about who i want to everyone to end up with.

OMG i almost screamed when i read about Jem telling Emma about when Will literally put his hands in the fire to save his Medicine i stopped reading and posted a pic straight on Instagram

And also when Magnus and Malcolm were literally comparing their Humans like ...

'"I can't remember precisely. Magnus, stop bothering Emma and Julian," he said, and there was a tinge of something like annoyance in his voice. Professional jealousy, Emma guessed. "This is my domain. You've got your own hopeless humans in New York."
"One of those hopeless humans is the father of my child," Magnus pointed out.
Magnus had not ever been pregnant, though that would have been interesting, Emma thought. He and Alec Lightwood had an adopted Warlock child, named Max, who was a scintillating shade of navy blue.
"And," Magnus added, "the rest of them have all saved the world, at least once."
Malcolm gestured toward Julian and Emma. "I have high hopes for these."
Magnus's face broke into a grin. "I'm sure you're right." he said.'

The whole Midnight Theatre thing was actually confusing because the book is called Lady Midnight but Annabelle Blackthorn was never referred to as Lady Midnight, so i have no clue if i missed it or it was never mentioned, and the fact that all of the patrons of The Midnight Theatre are all part Downworlder and that they all have hostility toward Shadowhunters and at first we don't understand it but then everything becomes clear when we find out Annabelle's Fate.

Parabatai Law is one of those things since the series started we have thought we knew everything about but more things just keep coming it actually made sense that is the odd thing about it where one sided love and a crush means nothing but as soon as it turns into requited love then all of a sudden there runes become as powerful as a Warlock Spell. I understand why Emma did what she did at the end but it kind of killed me especially the whole Mark scenario I'm sure we are going to have to put up with like we did with Clary and Simon.

There wasn't a lot of Jem and Emma scenes but there were enough for a first book, like Emma's dad playing Jems violin, and Jem telling he his name and her realising she isn't the only Carstairs, and him telling her about Will, and just right at the beginning where she just misses him, it was all very sweet and i cant wait for more of that.

The whole relationship between Julian and Emma is a odd one i didn't really like it back when we first found out about it, i thought it was going to be drama and angst filled. But it was the opposite it was so beautifully written that it really was a friends to lovers story and it was pretty perfect. I have to admit i laughed my head off at the fact that Clare's male characters seem to get to have sex with the person they love earlier and earlier Jace took 6 books, Will took 3 and Julian took 1. I was so shocked when that happened because i wasn't expecting it at all even all of the kisses they were all in the heat of the moment and after sex they pretended like like it was nothing and they didn't love each other.

There were times when i thought that it was being dragged out and i kept thinking are we near the climax yet because this is getting a little tedious. Then finally we have the ending where we find out it was as we first sort of suspected from about page 250 that it was an inside job. But i never suspected Malcolm at all and the way it was revealed was very quick like ' Oh Malcolm's the guardian hes the one who killed Emma's parents lets sit and talk" i just couldn't get my head around how quick they put it together.

The whole conclusion scene in the Cave was pretty confusing for me and i really wish it wasn't, it was pretty anti-climactic and that is really sad i wish there was more action but we have 2 more books for action so i hope that happens.

New characters Cristina and Diego i don't know how i feel about them, i kind of ship them but at the same time the betrayal seems odd and the way his brother acted if they were going to parabatai then they have to pass tests like we saw in the Shadowhunter Academy series. Wouldn't he of failed them. i don't know how i feel about that but since there will be no Mark & Cristina like i was originally hoping for then i guess i will start shipping Mark & Kieran and Cristina & Diego. As characters go Cristina is pretty much Emma's best friend after Julian and it is a really good relationship someone who she can talk to that isn't Julian, because that is when things start getting rough. I don't particularly like Kieran right now after trying to get Mark sent back to the Wild Hunt and in turn getting Mark almost whipped and Julian and Emma whipped in the process.

Old characters made a few appearances, Jace and Clary made the most even if its just a mention, and it was so good to hear about their lives and what they are doing. And also Alec and Magnus and their little Blueberry.

A Long Conversation was something i read as i was waiting for the bus after buying this book, and i fangirled so hard reading this with Sizzy getting engaged to Magnus talking about the little boy him and Alec want to adopt from Buenos Aires and he is a Nephilim so they don't know if they will allow a Downworld to raise someone of Angel blood and you have protective Daddy Alec and also just Jace asking Clary to marry him ....

But she is dreading giving him an answer WTF i have been waiting for this and she is dreading it how in the world can she be dreading it. I can understand why people are getting fed up with this world because the books are pretty similar they just have different characters and settings. But i personally love it.

I am not saying anything about Kit because i have no words for that hopefully in the next book i can address THAT situation.
