Chain of Gold - Cassandra Clare SPOILER REVIEW

Chain of Gold - Cassandra Clare (NO SPOILERS)

Title - Chain of Gold
Author - Cassandra Clare
Series - The Last Hours #1
Genre - YA Fantasy
ISBN - 978-1-4063-5809-4
Format - Hardback
My Copy - Purchased
Where you can find it - Goodreads - Amazon UK - Amazon US - Book Depository - Waterstones - Barnes & Noble - Indigo

Chain of Gold is the first book in a new Shadowhunter series by the amazing Cassandra Clare, I honestly haven't been reading much recently but this was something I couldn't let pass me by, a thought occurred to me as I was on the bus going to buy this book, I started reading this series ten years ago, in 2010, and I'm still coming back for more.

This book is in the same realm as the Infernal Devices series, but these characters hold their own, Cordelia, James, Lucie, Mathew, Thomas and many others have to do as many before them have and fight for the lives of their fellow Nephilim and also the mundanes, it shouldn't fall on their shoulders but they are willing to take not only the fall, but the risk as well. James and the gang must deal with hormones and demonic creatures that no one has ever encounter before, add in a dash of love and a lot of heartbreak and it spell for an amazing book.

So I wasn't too sure at first about this book because even though the family tree in the back of the Clockwork Princess is known to be false in parts I kind of liked the way it was, without giving out any spoilers, so far there are two things that I can say is wrong. I have lots of feelings about this that I will get into when I post my spoiler review but for right now all I'm going to say is that don't take the deaths or marriages to heart, because I'm guessing most of it will change.

Character wise, I really enjoyed reading from Cordelia's POV, and James' POV as well, I feel like Lucie's was there to give you certain aspects of the story but I wasn't as in to them as the others, there is something about Cordelia that reminds me of lots of 'modern' Shadowhunter characters she is selfless and compared to some in the series that I won't name here, it's refreshing.

James was good, at first I was a bit annoyed at him but when I figured out what was wrong with him I realised that the icky feeling I was getting in the beginning was because I was realising that what was happening wasn't quite right, Again most of James' storyline is full of spoilers so I won't talk about him much here, but know that he is a worthy successor to Will, Jem, Jace, and all the men who came after him.

This book is really hard to write about without giving out spoilers so I will not talk too much about the rest of the characters but I will say that the representation is phenomenal and Cassandra Clare has always been at the top of her game when it comes to representing the communities that don't get a lot of representation and even in a book where it's set in a time where it's not particularly accepted. I can't wait to see where this series is headed, and as of right now the next book is set to be released in March of 2021 so I cannot wait for it.

So to wrap up, even if you haven't read any of the Shadowhunter series, you could still enjoy this book, there will be things referenced but it isn't mandatory to understand what's going on. It's a really good read and one I am glad to have read.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dear Logan,
Someday I'm going to write a book: How Not to Die in Alaska - A Girl's Guide to Fashionable Survival.

I bet you don't know that a hair pin can make an excellent fishing hook. You may think you can use just any kind of mud for mud masks, but trust me, you CAN'T! In a pinch, nothing starts a fire like nail polish remover. Alaska is tough. You might know this, if you ever replied to my letters.
After Maddie's Secret Service dad takes a bullet for the president, he takes Maddie somewhere he thinks they'll be safe - far away from the White House and the president's son, Logan.
But when Logan comes to Alaska, so does the danger.

📕📗📘📙📕📗📘📙

I have read many of Ally Carters books and this one is just as good as the rest, she has a way of telling a story, and it keeps you entertained and hooked for the entire course of the book.

This is a story very different but all together the same for what Carter normally writes, it has a strong female lead and a wonderful male counterpart, this wasn't an elaborate saga with a hundred different characters it felt very intimate and small, and when it's a stand alone book that is a good thing so that way you can get to know the characters rather than just read them instead you rout for them.

The way this book is written it makes me want to go to Alaska, and do what Maddie and Logan do, just without the drama.

I don't want to spoil this book, so the only comments I will give this book, is that it was fast paced, and I couldn't put the book down, my only issue and the reason why its not 5 stars is the fact that I personally felt like it ended too quickly, and it was a bit predictable, but I honestly don't expect much else from YA books, I think I have read so many over the years that it does take a lot for one not to be predictable.

But overall I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced, and a real page turner, if you like this genre then I highly recommend it.

Until Next Time
Happy Reading

This isn't a series it's called linked instead, but I'm classing it as a series. I have read one book by this author and I loved it so I want to read these ones next.

July 2018 TBR

Hi, so I have been in a reading slump for over two years and it has got to the point where I have actually gotten rid of the majority of my books because I couldn't bear to look at them so now I have decided to do something about it and give myself a book a week to read so here are the four books I have chosen for July....

Magnus Chase and the Ship of The Dead - Rick Riordan

I have been reading this book since it came out last October but I never got around to finishing it.

The Ship of the Dead.jpg

Anne Boleyn: A Kings obsession - Alison Weir

I want to finish reading this book, and then the next before October as I am going to the Authors talk about the next book in this series.

Save the Date - Morgan Matson

I pre-ordered this book but I just haven't had the urge to pick it up yet hopefully soon as I enjoyed all of Matson's other books.

Learn About Loss - Cassandra Clare

I have really gotten into this series of novella's and I seem to always be able to read Clare's books even with my reading slump.

So that is all the books I plan to read this month so ....

Until Next Time
Happy Reading

Top 5 Wednesday - Books You've Read Because of Booktube/Blogging/etc. - 27th September 2017

Hello, so it has been a long time since i posted let alone did a T5W, so i thought to get back into blogging and hopefully reading that i will start doing these again and take my blog back to where i first began. So this weeks T5W is all about the books i read because of Booktube/Blogging. I haven't watched booktube or been on any blogs for a while so these books are pretty old but here is my list....

5. Beautiful Disaster - Jamie McGuire
I kept seeing this book around here and there and decided to read it and i was so happy that i did even though i haven't read it in quite a few years it is still a firm favourite.

4. Obsidian - Jennifer L Armentrout
Again i haven't read this book in quite some time but i really stuck with me, and now i want to re read it.

3. The Fault in Our Stars - John Green
This book has so many emotions to it, and i have many fond memories of it as well, at one point on Booktube this book was all anyone could talk about,

2. We Were Liars - E Lockheart
I read this book back in 2014 and it still plays with my mind even now, when this book came out and everyone was raving about it, i thought this cant be as good as everyone says it is, but it really messed my mind up.

1. Percy Jackson - Rick Riordan
The entire Percy Jackson saga is one that i love with all my heart it think it was Katytastic that i first saw them on, but i cant be sure. I first read them in 2013 and i haven't looked back.

So Until Next Time
Happy Reading

Forever Geek - Holly Smale

Title - Forever Geek
Series - Geek Girl #6
Author - Holly Smale
ISBN9780007574698
My Copy - E-ARC
Format - Kindle
Release Date - March 9th 2017
Genre - YA > Contemporary
Where You Can Find It - Goodreads - Waterstones - Book Depository - Amazon UK
My name is Harriet Manners and I’ll be a geek forever…

Harriet Manners knows almost every fact there is.

Modelling isn’t a sure-fire route to popularity. Neither is making endless lists. The people you love don’t expect you to transform into someone else. Statistically, you are more likely to not meet your Australian ex-boyfriend in Australia than bump into him there.

So on the trip of a lifetime Down Under Harriet’s to-do lists are gone and it’s Nat’s time to shine! Yet with nearly-not-quite-boyfriend Jasper back home, Harriet’s completely unprepared to see supermodel ex Nick. Is the fashion world about to turn ugly for GEEK GIRL?

It’s time for Harriet to face the future. Time to work out where her heart lies. To learn how to let go…

OK, let me start by saying this book isn't being released for a while yet so this review will have no spoilers in it, but there will be a spoiler review going up a week after publication. The reason why is because there is so much to discuss and although there will be no spoilers for this book i cannot say the same for the other books because i may have to spoil them a little bit so if you haven't caught up be prepared for a few spoilers.

So going into this book, i posted a picture on instagram and the author Holly Smale commented saying she 'hoped it ended in a way that made it OK' and that made me worry a little bit. But i will get more into that at a later date.
Before i started reading this book, i thought about what i wanted to happen and what i wanted to see and how i wanted this book to end and it didn't disappoint. Like every other book in this series, i laughed, i cried and i smiled so much my cheeks hurt.

Harriet was just as geeky and fun and just Harriet as before, we also meet some old characters and we meet some new characters as well, but for some of the old characters it was like meeting old friends and seeing these characters that all helped Harriet along the way either in a good way or a bad way. It had me smiling.

I can honestly say that Holly Smale is one of the best UKYA authors we have, and that the Geek Girl series is a series all teenage girls should read because it shows you that it is OK to be different, its OK that you aren't the most popular, and that you may not be the most social but if you have a good group of people around you be it, friends or family you will be OK.

It send out a beautiful message that even if you are not socially accepted, there are people who will accept you for who you are, so you don't need to change for anyone. This series will forever be one of my favourite and along with Harry Potter it is one of the best children YA series to come out of the UK.

Until Next Time
Happy Reading

Willa can’t erase the bad decisions of her past that led her down the path she’s on now. But she can fight for forgiveness from her family. And she can protect herself by refusing to let anyone else get close to her.

High school quarterback and town golden boy Brady used to be the best of friends with Willa—she even had a crush on him when they were kids. But that’s all changed now: her life choices have made her a different person from the girl he used to know.
Gunner used to be friends with Willa and Brady, too. He too is larger than life and a high school football star—not to mention that his family basically owns the town of Lawton. He loves his life, and doesn’t care about anyone except himself. But Willa is the exception—and he understands the girl she’s become in a way no one else can.
As secrets come to light and hearts are broken, these former childhood friends must face the truth about growing up and falling in love…even if it means losing each other forever.
I actually have two copies of this book i ended up buying this book on my kindle and had the physical book on pre order but that came on the Thursday but i read it on my kindle on the Tuesday. Confused yet, so am i. I am glad i brought this on my kindle because it meant i could read it when it came out and i was so looking forward to this book, but it wasn't as good as the first, this one had a lot more family drama and craziness.

The story in Under The Lights is very different from the first this one was more drama related than the first one which was more about healing and loss, I'm not saying this story is worse because of that but i am saying it doesn't hold up for me emotionally where the first book hit me so hard this was a lot like other YA Contemporaries.
The story flowed well, and it was an extremely enjoyable read one that i devoured in one sitting. I also hope we have seen something for the future because i am 100% sure Riley is going to have a book and hopefully its the next book because i just cant wait to hear her story.

This was a little bit of a love triangle and i have really gone off those, but the characters in the Love triangle Willa, Brady, and Gunner and then we also have Nanna and all of the supporting characters who bring so much be it bad or good every character brought something to the book and that is one thing i love about Glines' books the characters always make the book 10 times better.

I cant wait for the next book, i am guessing it will be out next August since so far both books have been released in August of successive years. and i really hope its about Riley and someone that i cant say because it will spoil the book, but i think that one will definitely go back to the emotional stuff.

Until Next Time
Happy Reading
