Chain of Gold Spoiler Review

I read this book in 9 hours on and off, I finished it about two hours ago and I decided that I needed to write my reviews now. I've already posed my spoiler free review and if you haven't read that I suggest you read that or the book first and then read this review.

So let's start, going in I was really excited, the prologue was in Lucie's POV of when she first met Jesse Blackthorn and then after that the business starts and you literally get thrown into the boy's killing a demon, and I love the call back the first word James speaks in the book (Not in a flashback) is, like his father before him, his parabatai Mathew.

There was lots of call backs but also lot's of solitary moments that were amazing in their own right.
Cordelia is a huge standout character for me, her selflessness and her love for those around her is truly inspiring and she literally ruins herself so that James won't get in trouble and in the era that they are in, this is the worst possible scenario.

Now James, I wanted to like him and at first I didn't, there was something icky about him when he was with Grace, I didn't like it, he seemed too much like a puppy wanting to make it's owner proud and for me that wasn't the Herondale's we know and love and so when he took that bracelet off and started acting 'normal' I realised that there had been something wrong with his character. The whole Grace situation I feel is worse than the Will, Tessa, and Jem, because the Infernal Devices one was based on love this isn't, once James had the bracelet off, the love faded and so it was never real, where as he did actually feel something for Cordelia so I think that it going to be hard to 'watch' play out.

Grace is a character I'm not too sure about, there are moments in the book where you feel so sorry for her but then a few pages later she is right in there helping with the orchestration of everything, she isn't being forced so far as we can see, and currently I have little sympathy for her, because she's had that hold over James since they were thirteen she might have been coerced back then but I don't know, I just get a bad vibe from her.

Lucie was good, she wasn't as much of a fixture as I thought she was going to be, at times she did just feel like she was there to keep the story moving, the same with some of the other characters, but I hope to see more of her and of Thomas, and Christopher.

So from everything that we've seen of Alistair Carstairs so far he's a pompous prat who is a bully and an D**K but this book changed my opinion of him, he's gay in a time where he will be expected to get married and carry on the family name, he's the only male left and that must be a lot of pressure, and add in the fact that he's been hiding their father's alcohol abuse for years it would certainly ascertain to his ways, the same with Charles except without the alcoholic father and instead an ambition to be Consul, but like James I fear that he is under some sort of spell.

I don't know what that bracelet could be but I would be anything it's filled with dark magic. I would really like for this to be resolved in the next book but I know that won't happen this will be dragged out and the reveal of Tessa's father was one not of shock but of a bit of disbelief I guess and the fact that Tessa has her Prince of Hell fathers eyes, is a little unsettling, I would've liked to see her reaction a bit more but again it's their children's books not theirs.

So for the inconstancies on the family tree, so far I have found two, and that is that Grace married Christopher (But that could change) And Barbara's death date, that was pretty shocking, I didn't expect a 'major' death so close to the beginning but it had the impact it needed.

Now onto the bit that I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, currently it seems that too many people are interested in each other and again I hope that get's sorted out in the next book but having Cordelia telling the entire enclave that she and James spent the night together to give him an alibi for burning down Blackthorn manner was one of the most selfless act's, I know I mentioned it above but in this time ruin was like exile for many and for James to propose even though Grace has the bracelet hold over him shows that he still has some sense about him and I really hope that he snaps out of it and soon.

My hopes for the next book are that we find out Grace's intentions and James takes that goddamned bracelet off, I hope to see more of Lucie and the other characters as well, especially Jesse, I really want to see how Cassandra Clare pulls off bringing him back, because she has to.
And the fact that Tatiana is one of the Villain's is pure genius and I cant wait to see where it goes next.
