Top 5 Wednesday - 27th April 2016 - Favourite Mother / Maternal Figures

This is a really difficult topic as in YA, what i normally read, there are very few parental figures so i had to go into children's as well.....

5. Mrs Garrett - My Life Next Door - Huntley Fitzpatrick

She is an amazing mother and i think everyone should have a mother like her.

4. Rachel Morgan - Gallagher Girls - Ally Carter

Rachel is an amazing mother even if she cant cook.

3. Alberta Petrov - Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead

She may not be Roses mother but she was a maternal figure in her life and one that was there a lot more than her mother ever was.

2. Sally Jackson - Percy Jackson - Rick Riordan

I mean she married an abusive horrible man to protect her some she is probably one of the best out there.

1. Molly Weasley - Harry Potter - J.K Rowling

I mean i am almost 100% sure she is going to be on every ones list because she is the epitome of an amazing mother, she may not be able to give them expensive things but she makes what she can work and she has the patience of a saint because if my children ever did even half the stuff hers did i would have died of a heart attack a long time ago.

Owen - Tony Riches

Title - Owen
Author - Tony Riches
Series - The Tudor Trilogy #1
ISBN - 9781502901019
Genre - Historical Fiction

England 1422: Owen Tudor, a Welsh servant, waits in Windsor Castle to meet his new mistress, the beautiful and lonely Queen Catherine of Valois, widow of the warrior king, Henry V. Her infant son is crowned King of England and France, and while the country simmers on the brink of civil war, Owen becomes her protector. They fall in love, risking Owen’s life and Queen Catherine’s reputation—but how do they found the dynasty which changes British history – the Tudors?

This book tells the story of Owen Tudors life from 20 years old to 60 years old and his life was a eventful one a welsh servant to the wife of a French Princess and Queen Dowager. It was a good book i am not discrediting it at all and i will get into why i didn't enjoy it at times in a moment first i will tell you all about what was good ....

The characters in the beginning were a tad bland but towards the end, like when he is talking to his son about their illegitimate children it is just something that you can imagine happening and it was a strange kind of beautiful moment that you smile at. Catherine was a minor character really to be honest Juliette was more of a character than Catherine was and the fact that Catherine is his wife you would think that we would have more than what we did, but again i cant fault them because you see in the small amount of this book that is dedicated to them we see the love and respect they have for each other. The minor characters were at times confusing because of the Time jumps (i will get to those in a moment) characters aren't the same as they were in the last chapter, but you forget that and it does get confusing so i didn't pay much attention to the minor characters.

I enjoyed how Historically Accurate it could be with the blank spaces in history but what we do know is in there and that is always a huge plus for me. And the fact that there were no NSFW scenes (Sex Scenes) i mean it was implied but nothing graphic and it was a nice change to read an adult Historical Fiction and not have a Sex Scene in every chapter.

Onto to the things i didn't like it felt like non fiction because it was so clinical there wasn't really any feeling behind Owen and that showed a lot and i guess if you are a man reading this it might not bother you but i am a romantic who loves to read about emotion in men even if its hidden but there was none in this book i hope we get some in Jasper and definitely hope we get some  Henry because i don't think i would be able to deal with it if we don't.
Also the time jumps it got pretty annoying to be honest i just gave up trying to figure out what year it was because sometimes it would skip in the middle of a chapter and not tell you.

So overall i pushed through all of my problems with this book and in the end i did enjoy it it was a good and substantial Historical Fiction and i cant wait to carry on with this series.

Forever Rockers - Terri Anne Browning

Title - Forever Rockers
Author - Terri Anne Browning
Series - The Rocker ... Series #12

The boys biggest fear come to fruition Shane's past is coming back to haunt them. A crazy one night stand has been making their lives crazy but she is escalating from vandalising their tour bus to almost killing Shane and Harper's Dog to trying to kidnap Mia and in the process shoots Gabby. The only problem is, is they have no idea who this woman is and she is closer than they think. In the final book every thing comes to a head and not everyone will live to see the end....
I was extremely confused when this book started, i had no clue what was going on, but after a couple of pages i realised we were reading from (as i dubbed her in my notes) Crazy stalker bitch's POV and it got me very interested because at first i was like "am i reading a different book", we figure she is pretty close to Shane and Harper because she was at their wedding and it was her thoughts that let you in on the fact that she is unstable and at one point i even wrote - Woman is a F*****G nutjob - now on to the rest of the characters because Crazy Stalker doesn't deserve much of my time.

This book is to do with all of the Rockers we have met but mainly Shane and Harper who we find out are having trouble conceiving and and they have managed to keep it a secret but secrets always have a way of being revealed as when you go to see fertility doctors and your Rockstar husband is with you the receptionist will most probably tell the press. and it was really difficult to see them go through this and the fact that it is their last chance before they will go through with adopting instead.

Now this is where the story picks up to another level and i don't want to spoil anything so i wont say but this woman is on another level when it comes to stalking. i am saying no my my lips are sealed because i feel you should go into this book with no clue what so ever.

Onto the climax finding out who Crazy Stalker Bitch was was pretty anti climactic since we don't really no her and it wasn't this huge reveal It was just oh that's it. but the last about 100 pages were an action packed bundle of angst and joy and one very distinct part disgusting then again i have used that very scene as a threat quite a few times "i will chop your **** off and shove it down your throat" but only when someone really deserves it.

The characters in this apart from a couple were phenomenal, i haven't read a book in this series in a while and so it was like catching up, especially since this book had so many POV's, the story flowed flawlessly through from each book and this book tied up so many loose ends from the rest of the series and it was good to see so many Daddy Rockers together.

A perfect ending to a series that was consistently good.

9 Books About British Royalty

Hello, so in honer of Queen Elizabeth II turning 90 Years Old Today (21st April 2016) i decided to do a list of some of my favourite books about the British Royal Family both Fiction and Non Fiction....

1 - Stormbird - Conn Iggulden - Fiction

This is the first book in a series called The Wars of The Roses series and it tells the tale of the Civil War that Plagued England in the 13th Century. This is a fiction book and it is such a good one each book is better than the last in this series and i am really sad to see it ending in May 2016.

2. Philip and Elizabeth - The Portrait of A Marriage - Gyles Brandreth - Non Fiction

I haven't read this book in full it is one of those books i love to flip through and reads bits and pieces of. This tells the tale of a marriage that has lasted 60 + years and i personally love it.

3. The Confession of Catherine Howard - Suzannah Dunn - Fiction

This is probably the first ever Adult Historical Fiction book i read and even around 6 years on i still love it and still remember a lot of what happened in that book.

4. The Lady Elizabeth - Alison Weir - Fiction

This was the first Elizabeth book i read from when Elizabeth was young, in the past i had read books from her reign but never from her childhood and this was so insightful. And told of possible scenarios of why she ended up the way she did.

5. Charles & Camilla: Portrait of A Love Affair - Gyles Brandreth - Non Fiction

Much like Philip and Elizabeth by the same Author, i just love flicking through this and reading passages and bits of modern history and how it came to be since when all of this was playing out i was only about 2 years old so i didn't really know much about it until i started looking it up.

6. The Virgin Widow - Anne O'Brien - Fiction

This book is about a Queen who we know very little of in this time the 1480 there are two Queens who have fallen into obscurity and this is about Richard III's Wife Anne Neville who some would say was behind the plot to put her husband on the throne and take the crown from his nephew.

7. Plantagenet Princess, Tudor Queen - Samantha Wilcoxson - Fiction

And here is other other obscure Queen of the 1480's and she is Elizabeth of York and this is the best book i have found for her be it fiction or non fiction, it is one of the best.

8. The Plantagenet's - Dan Jones - Non Fiction

Again i haven't read the whole thing but i have read passages and i really don't know much about this era, i am more Tudors than anything and this is before the Tudors and it really is fascinating when people say the Tudors were violent they really have nothing on The Plantagenet's.

9. The Other Queen - Philippa Gregory - Fiction

I had to include this book since it is about British royalty and i have only included English so far, but this book is about Mary Queen of Scots and it is one of the best in the series and i enjoyed it and again i really don't know much about Scottish Royalty only that pretty much all of then were called Mary or James, so it is fun for me when i read books so i can learn more (but don't do that with Gregory's books because they are more fiction than fact.)
